In a time of tight budgets, high incarceration rates, and steady crime rates, can we imagine new ways of improving the outcomes of people coming out of prison and jails? The speakers will discuss what change is possible, given the state of research evidence, our public discourse on crime, and the capacity of poor communities.

On Feb 26th, 2010, the Therapeutic Jurisprudence Center and the student editorial board of Psychology, Public Policy and Law will present a symposium on prisoner reentry. The keynote speaker will be Jeremy Travis, President of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York and former Director of the National Institute of Justice during the Clinton Administration. Professor Winick also will be one of the speakers, and other speakers will be announced shortly. The program will be held from 1-4 p.m. in room 352 at the law school, and a reception will follow. President Travis’ topic is “Rethinking Prisoner Reentry in the Era of Mass Incarceration, ” and abstract of his presentation is as follows:
